There are a few fundamental rules that, in general, a leader should adhere to.

Don't:

  • Be selfish
  • Blame your team
  • Give orders
  • Hold people back
  • Keep people down
  • Make excuses
  • Micro-manage
  • Put a lid on people
  • Settle
  • Take the credit for the work of your team
  • Wait for something to happen

Instead:

  • Be selfless
  • Support your team
  • Motivate and inspire
  • Push people forward
  • Lift people up
  • Make ultimate responsibility yours
  • Allow people to learn on their own
  • Let people grow
  • Seek continuous improvement
  • Give the credit to your team
  • Initiate change
